Original Songs
Music is at the heart of the Risas y Sonrisas Spanish for Kids curriculum. Every vocabulary theme begins with an original song. Students quickly learn the new vocabulary words and become familiar with the sounds of Spanish by singing.
In addition to the main Spanish vocabulary songs, there are many extra songs that teach extra vocabulary, common phrases, grammar concepts, or cultural points.
In order to accelerate learning and maximize retention, our original songs are presented three ways:
Animated Song Video
Great for introducing new vocabulary for the first time. Give students a clear visual association with the words they're singing. Pause the video after each phrase to repeat, or sing along as you learn the Spanish words.
Sign & Sing Video (ASL)
American Sign Language (ASL) helps connect each vocabulary word to a physical movement. This helps students learn the vocabulary more quickly. Plus, you can learn two languages at once.
Song Lyrics & Audio
The Song Lyrics video gives students a chance to see all the words of the video. Play the audio for your students to sing along or just show them the lyrics and have them sing the song from memory! The song lyrics page also works great as a tool for practicing correct pronunciation.
Games for Every Theme
After introducing each Spanish vocabulary theme with an original song, students need to "activate" the vocabulary they've learned. The Online Program games let you promote repetition with variation, keeping students engaged in their Spanish learning.
Matching Flashcards
The Matching Flashcards Game lets you match words to their corresponding pictures. Use Practice Mode to introduce and do a quick review of each vocabulary theme. As students advance, they can play Level 1 (with audio) or Level 2 (no audio) to earn a score or badge.
Domino
Students match full-color pictures to Spanish words to create vocabulary "squares" in each theme. Level 1 includes audio. Level 2 has no audio.
Bubbles
When you hear the word, find the correct picture as quickly as possible! In Level 1, the pictures stay still. Level 2 offers an extra challenge since the pictures will shuffle if students take too long!
Verb Conjugation Game
Test your ability to conjugate verbs in the past, present, and future tenses. Level 1 helps students learn the basics of verb conjugation while Level 2 asks students to prove their verb-conjugation proficiency. For an extra challenge, try the Mixed Tense activity, which randomly cycles between past, present, and future tenses.
Practical Conversation Skills
Once students have mastered the new Spanish vocabulary, they need to be able to use it in real-world conversation!
Questions and Answers
Each Q&A includes an English translation and is color-coded to let you substitute additional vocabulary with the same base question. This encourages students to learn common language patterns of Spanish "by ear" rather than simply memorizing a set of phrases. Each Q&A includes audio of a native Spanish speaker to help teach and learn correct Spanish pronunciation.
Q&A Practice Game
Lets students practice building complete sentences in the correct order one word at a time. In Level 1, students can listen to the audio first. Level 2 has no audio.
Comics
Our eight original comics each cover two vocabulary themes. These are available as videos and scripts in the Online Program. The comics place the vocabulary context, using comprehensible input methods to advance students' vocabularies and speaking abilities. Great for practicing in groups!
Skit Videos
Our eight original skits give students an opportunity to bring the Spanish vocabulary and Q&A they've learned into a real-world context. The Skit Videos are performed by native Spanish speakers and include Spanish subtitles for students to follow along. The Skit scripts can also be found in both the Student Book and the Activity Workbooks.
Pronunciation Activities
At Risas y Sonrisas Spanish for Kids, we focus on correct Spanish pronunciation right from the start. We offer several tools to help students learn the different sounds of the Spanish language.
Visual Aids & Color-Coding
Fun visual aids help students learn and remember correct Spanish pronunciation. Nouns and adjective endings are color-coded throughout the program to help students distinguish masculine and feminine nouns.
Easy Words
Two "Easy Words" activities use cognates (words similar in English and Spanish) to help students learn the pronunciation differences between the two languages.
Learning these "Easy Words" also shows students that they already know some Spanish just by knowing English! Students can then use this big bank of easy vocabulary in the Q&A throughout the program. This grows their confidence and allows them to say even more things.

If you don't want to build your own quizzes from scratch, you can use ours! We offer a Global Bank of more than 50 pre-built quizzes for almost every theme. Add these to your personal Quiz Bank where you can tweak them to meet the needs of your students or just assign them as is!
Automatic Grading
When you assign a quiz to your students, it automatically appears in their Online Program dashboard when they log in. Submitted quizzes are automatically graded (except for the Voice Record question). Quiz scores then appear in your Gradebook where you can easily see each student's score as well as their answers to each question.
Designed to make practice fun!
Our program provides incentives to keep students practicing! Note that these features are only available for schools with Individual Student Logins.
Badges
Students can easily see how they're doing across all the activities in their easy-to-read Badges chart. Students earn a badge for each activity they complete. Depending on their score, they receive the Baby Dinosaur (<50%), Teenage Dinosaur (50%-99%), or Adult Dinosaur (100%). Badges in the most-recently completed theme rise to the top to keep students practicing Level 1 and Level 2 games in each theme.
Weekly Practice Goal
Set a number of minutes that you want your students to practice per week. Time adds to the practice goal after a student completes each activity.
In Reports, Teachers can see at a glance which of your students have completed the practice goal. See how many weeks in a row students can complete their goal with Practice Goal Streaks!
Class High Scores
Encourage friendly competition in your classes by showing an anonymous list of the class's best scores each time a student completes the Bubble or Domino Game.

In addition to our songs, games, and activities for teaching kids Spanish, we offer lots of great tools for teachers, parents, and administrators! These easy-to-use tools let you confidently manage your Spanish for Kids Online Program account. Adding Individual Student Logins unlocks complete Activity Reports with detailed information about each of your students' usage of the Online Program.
Class Management Tools
Our intuitive class management tools allow you to easily create, delete, and edit information for each user in your school, as well as sort teachers and students into classes.
Activity Selection
If you add Generic or Individual Student Logins, you can set which themes and activities your students can access when they log in to the Online Program. For instance, if you're only working on Colors and Numbers that week, you can ensure your students can only access Colors and Numbers activities.This is a great way to keep students focused and on task!
Downloadable Resources
If you add Generic or Individual Student Logins, you'll also get access to our complete set of Downloadable Resources. These include printable flashcards, on-paper assessments, lesson planning aids, and materials for additional activities and games.
Activity Reports
Adding Individual Student Logins unlocks complete Activity Reports for each of your students. These reports include:
- The number of times each student has accessed each activity.
- Each student's best and most recent score in the Domino and Bubble Game for each theme.
- The time of each student's most recent log-in.
- The ability to toggle between "this week," "this month," and "all-time" views.
- Practice Goal chart showing which students have met their practice goal each week.

Most Online Program accounts include a complete set of Printable Resources that you can use to play a number of additional games and activities in the program. We also offer lesson planning aids, assessment tools, and other resources to help make your Spanish lessons as fun and effective as possible!
Activity Downloads
The Activity Downloads let you play a variety of additional games and activities included in the Program. These include extra pronunciation practice, as well as activities to enhance vocabulary with specialized specialized Spanish-vocabulary themes such as Time and Family.
We provide assessment tools for each chapter that can help you measure and monitor your students' progress. These hard-copy assessments test everything from vocabulary to spelling to conversation skills.
Vocabulary Cards
You can also download and print a complete set of Vocabulary and Q&A cards with Spanish on one side and English on the other. These allow you to create an additional set of Spanish flashcards covering all the vocabulary in the program.
Lesson Planning Aids
In addition to all the materials for students, we also provide lesson plan templates, explanations of the Online Program content, and diagrams of the Risas y Sonrisas method. These tools can help structure and plan lessons while also giving you greater flexibility in your Spanish classes.
Student Logins
Practice makes perfect when teaching Spanish to kids! Give your students the ability to continue practicing after your School or Homeschool classes by adding Student Logins to your Online Program License. We offer two options for adding Student Logins to your Online Program account. The table below shows what is included in each license type.
Individual Student Logins
Individual Logins let you use all of our powerful tools for teaching and learning Spanish. They work best with older students who will be practicing and learning Spanish in a more structured context. We usually do not recommend Individual Logins for students in grades K-2.
We recommend adding Individual Student Logins if...
School:
- You want to monitor your students' Online Program activity for homework.
- You want create and assign Quizzes to assess your students' learning.
- You want to use the Weekly Practice Goal and the Badges to get students practicing Spanish outside of class.
- The Spanish for Kids Online Program is your primary means of Spanish instruction.
Homeschool:
- Your Spanish lessons are remote or virtual.
- You do not live in the same household as your student(s).
- You want tools to monitor your kids' progress in a structured way.
- You teach multiple kids and want them to be able to practice Online at the same time.
- You are running a Spanish teaching or tutoring business.
Generic Logins let you give a large group of students access at a lower cost. You can choose which themes and activities your students can access.
We recommend adding Generic Student Logins if...
- You have a limited budget for Spanish materials.
- You have large groups of younger students (K-2).
- You are using the Spanish for Kids Online Program as enrichment and not as the primary curriculum.
- You want your students to practice outside of class, but are not assigning homework or using the Online Program as an assessment tool.
